The purpose of this website is to raise public awareness of the consideration being given by Camden County Commissioners to approve a "hardship variance" on Cumberland Island for the eventual purpose of allowing the building of several private residences within the boundary of Cumberland Island National Seashore.
Of those aware of this possible action, the inclination to support the rights of private property owners is strong. However, equally strong are the concerns of many that any development in and around this fragile and unique environment will adversely impact the primitive, undeveloped character of one of the largest and most ecologically diverse barrier islands on the Atlantic coast, and negatively impact the scenic, scientific, and historical conditions that provide outstanding opportunities for outdoor recreation and solitude.
Please use this site as an information base, formulate your position, share your thoughts, and inform your elected officials of the outcome your desire.
